Pump some popular French music in your classroom and practice French negation expressions with this cloze activity.
Stromae is *THE* French artist of 2014 and 2015 with his powerful lyrics and incredibly cinematic music videos. Students will be singing his songs and mesmerized by this hit song "Papaoutai".
The song is the story of Stromae's (verlan français pour Maestro) missing father figure, missing from his life in Rwanda. "Papaoutai" meaning "Papa où es-tu". And this song includes tons of expressions with negation.
The cloze activity reviews basic French grammar...
au vs aux
où vs ou
es vs est
...Reviews negative expressions Ne...pas, jamais, plus, rien, personne, pas encore
...And reinforces negation with the affirmative. For instance, in the follow-up activity to the cloze included in the download, students finish sentences (based on the song) by matching "Quelqu'un" with "Ne...personne", "Toujours" with "Ne...jamais", "Quelque chose" with "ne..rien"
This activity is a great match with the Negative Expressions Walk Around found in my Store.
