This is a great resource to get the students hands-on with building. This product includes the following to keep them engaged during the process!
1) Planning-A planning/sketch section is included for the students to make a prediction about how to construct their bridge with the given materials. An area is also included for students to sketch out and label their plan before meeting with their partner(s). Prep work is needed to have required materials. We used 5 jumbo paper clips, 2 dictionaries or other large books, 1 sheet copy paper, ruler (for measuring span only), 100 pennies per team, scissors (some students use these, some don't).
2) Data Collection-Students will record their trials as they build. A table is provided for students to record their data. Students could use this data to create a graph to display a visual of their trials at the end of the lesson.
3) Reflection Questions-After students have had ample build time, have them reflect on their bridge. Four reflection questions are provided to get kids thinking about what worked, what did not, and what could make it better. An area is provided for students to sketch and label their most successful bridge.
