PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

This is a three page lab titled "Pigment Powered Plants!". It is a simple chromatography lab in which you will need to provide spinach leaves and solvent (isopropyl alcohol is listed but acetone will also do the trick).

In this lab students dissolve plant pigments on filter paper so that the pigments are separated into chlorophyll a + b, carotenes, and xanthophyll.

PDF version included with MS Word Doc.

The procedure is clear and the results are no-fail. The procedure can be easily done in one class period. Students must calculate Rf factors (relative distance traveled), fill in a chart, draw, and answer 5 analysis questions. Answer key included.
