This interpretive writing assignment challenges students to take on the persona of a specific social class and create a historical narrative that evaluates periods in time before, during, and after the Civil War.
Specific student understanding and/or skills this assignment is designed to elicit:
1. Construct a historical narrative that highlights the life, role, and successes and or failures of a specific social class as a result of the Civil War.
2. Engage and orient the reader by establishing a context and point of view and introducing a narrator and/or characters; organize an event sequence that unfolds naturally and logically.
3. Explain the impact of the Civil War on a specific class of people
It is differentiated or tiered into three levels that appeal to:
-The general education population of students
-Exceptional Children/Special Education students.
A grading rubric is included.
A paragraph outline/ paragraph planner is included that can be distributed or used for instruction.
