This is an activity that I use to let my students practice carrying out an experiment and then recording/analyzing the data. The students will choose one of several questions about paper airplanes such as whether different types of paper affect flight distance, whether paper clip weights affect flight distance, etc. When I do this is in my classroom I provide easily accessible paper (printer, construction, magazine and newspaper) and then mark out meters on the floor with tape. I also have the students assign themselves the roles of thrower, measurer, recorder and folder.
In my experience, the students enjoy being able to move around and experiment with different planes.
