This booklet is meant to cover the most important aspects of writing a paragraph. It's not meant to support essay writing, per se, but rather guide students sequentially step-by-step through writing a clear, cohesive, interesting paragraph. I'm sure the information can be extrapolated and used for essay writing ... a project for another day!
The first page provides you, the teacher, and the students to discuss what the hallmarks of a good paragraph are. For me it's: topic sentence, concluding sentence, 3 -4 supporting details, an indent, spelling, grammar and punctuation. You may agree or disagree with any of these; it's up to you! Students should review these hallmarks consistently throughout doing the booklet.
This booklet can be used with grades 3 - 4 as a supplement to your writing program and for grade 5 - 7 for those who need adaptations/accommodations.
