When I first started teaching I found numerous writing resources. I had bookshelves full! However, each of those resources failed to give me a daily, step-by-step plan, as to how to teach writing. After my first few years of floundering, I laid out a straight forward plan to share with colleagues and now you!
"The Writing Plan Curriculum" includes my 5 favorite go-to writing units! Most of these units consist of 5 initial lessons. At the end of these lessons, students will have the organizational knowledge needed to write a solid paragraph that they can later expand into an essay. With continued practice, this curriculum can serve your students thoughout the school year! Student pages, proofreading worksheets, answer keys, graphic organizers, topic ideas and several writing rubric options are included!
The Writing Plan includes the following resources:
Informative Writing & General Organization
This unit is the first of the series.
Several additional units has been added. This specific resource includes a 5 day “Teaching Paragraph Writing” plan. It’s perfect for teaching informational writing but equally focuses on good general writing organization. This plan follows the classic color coding organization method, but provides daily guidance for direct instruction, guided practice, and student practice pages with answer keys. It is perfect for students beginning to learn writing organization and paragraph construction.
This narrative writing unit includes: 5 Day Plan, Definition Posters, Types of Narratives, Student Pages, and Narrative Rubrics
This descriptive writing unit includes: 5 Day Plan, Definition Posters, Sensory Words, Figurative Language, Descriptive Writing Tips, Student Example, a Practice Page, Word Web Graphic Organizer, Stationary, and Rubrics
