Introducing paragraph writing can be overwhelming -- for the teacher and the student! But it doesn't have to be. This 13 page, practical and easy-to use guide was designed with both the teacher and student in mind, by helping the teacher guide the student step by step to identify the elements of a paragraph, their order, the use of transition words, and ultimately, write a well-written paragraph. This guide includes 6 parts:
• I: What is a Well-Written Paragraph? (introducing elements and completing a practice activity)
• II:Identifying and Sequencing Parts of a Paragraph (students put sentences into the correct order and identify topic sentence, supporting details, and concluding sentence)
• III: Choosing the Right Kind of Sentence: Given a topic, students decide which sentence is the best for either a topic, supporting detail, or concluding sentence
• IV: Create Your Own Topic Sentence, Supporting Details, and Concluding Sentence (given five topics, students create their own topic sentences, supporting details, and concluding sentences)
• V & VI.: Transition Words (students are introduced to the importance of transition words and how to use them; they practice inserting them into paragraphs without transition words)
