Give your students practice writing with a paragraph a week. This unit can be used as bell ringers, homework, or as a mini-lesson.
Each lesson includes a mentor text, student self assessments, and a weekly grammar focus.
Writing Units include: Informative, Narrative, Argumentative, and Poetry.
Topics covered: transition words, coordinate adjectives, compound sentences, personification, editing, revise, stanza, lines, topic sentence, conclusion sentence, evidence and reasons, comma usage, setting, character development, annotation, using senses for description, claims, counterclaims, conjunctions, indentation, capital letters, punctuation, and drafting.
Monday: Students will read and annotate a mentor text.
Tuesday: Students will annotate the weekly prompt and use a graphic organizer to brainstorm ideas.
Wednesday: Students will write a paragraph.
Thursday: Students will use a writing checklist to analyze and annotate their own writing. Students will edit and revise their paragraph as needed.
Friday: Students will write their final draft.
