The "hand model" is something that I have used in my classroom for several years. It works so well for my students because they always have their hand with them. We practice it initially with the included sheets and then I can reference it throughout the school year to support better paragraph writing, supporting details, and answering questions effectively.
This set includes a printable "Hand" that I print on construction paper and display in the front of the room. I also make copies for students to have in their reading/writing notebooks for personal reference.
This packet includes:
-Example sheet (with an exercise for students to try)
-4 Paragraph Writing Exercises (on level)
-4 Paragraph Writing Exercises (below level w/support)
-Printable “Hand” for bulletin board, displays, and/or student writing folders
All of the prompts are student-centered and require general knowledge supporting details. The first sheet includes a sample of a "great" paragraph as well as a choice of topics to write about. The following pages include a picture of "the hand" at the top of the page for visual reference. These sheets can be used in class during whole group instruction, during centers, as a warm up and/or as homework.
