76 PARAGRAPH WRITING PROMPTS and ACTIVITIES (informative, narrative & persuasive / opinion) FOR THE ENTIRE YEAR with a DIGITAL VERSION INCLUDED for FREE!
Paragraph of the Week is a proven, step-by-step, scaffolded system. It makes teaching kids how to improve sentence structure and write a paragraph easy by guiding them through the writing process from the brainstorm page to the final copy.
The revising checklist / rubric will help them to improve their first draft by including descriptive details, improving word choice and writing a topic sentence that sets the stage for detailed paragraphs.
From the brainstorming section to the last sentence (and all the body sentences in between), the entire thing takes only a few minutes a day.
This single paragraph writing program has proven to be an effective technique because it provides practice opportunities using a consistent routine.
Teachers find it to be very easy to implement, manage, and maintain. Parents love the consistency and clear expectations when it is used as homework.
Unlike most writing programs, your 2nd grade, 3rd grade, 4th grade, or 5th grade students will focus on single weekly paragraphs to practice specific skills. This supports the needs of your students much better than an overwhelming writing assignment (such as a multi-paragraph essay) because it is so much more manageable.
You will be amazed at how using these Paragraph of the Week resources makes it easy to teach new skills and focus on improving upon previously introduced writing topics in very little time.
Best of all, the Paragraph of the Week program makes it easy to transition to higher-level tasks such as writing multi-paragraph essays, narrative text, a personal essay, imagined experiences and more because they will understand the writing process, have strengthened their skills and know how to put their thoughts into words using clear event sequences.
This bundle is the best value available on Teachers Pay Teachers because:
- It includes a total of 76 Paragraph of the Week Prompts for kids (36 each for narrative, opinion and informative writing) as well as a graphic organizer, optional drafting pages, paragraph writing rubrics and final copy paper for each of them.
- I've added a digital version for FREE that can be used as a paper-saving option or for remote teaching in a virtual or hybrid classroom. The digital resource was made for Google Classroom, but works with other platforms as well.
- It includes completed Paragraph of the Week examples that can be projected and shared with students as models.
This teacher-created, student-tested, step-by-step process is something I used with great success for over a decade in my own third grade classroom and they've been used (with amazing feedback and stories of impressive results) by thousands of second grade, third grade, fourth grade and fifth grade teachers who've purchased it in my TpT Store since
Each weekly prompt breaks the writing process down into manageable pieces that prevent students from feeling overwhelmed or reluctant to write. The format also allows for your advanced writers to focus on improving their craft.
