This 4th grade Christmas math center is perfect for the month of December!
Fourth grade students will enjoy this holiday game that helps them practice with geometry terms including parallel and perpendicular lines. It's great for celebrating the month of December and the winter season. Aligns with 4.G.1
There are 24 cards about parallel and perpendicular lines in shapes. There are another 24 cards on identifying basic geometric shapes.
Gingerbread Construction: Shapes, Parallel and Perpendicular Lines
This game is used to practice identifying different 2D geometric shapes and classify shapes based on their attributes in math during the Christmas season. Students also have to identify the types of lines in each shape (are the lines perpendicular, parallel, or both). Students also practice identifying polygons, geometry terms, triangles, squares, rectangles, rhombuses, trapezoids, diamonds, parallelograms, pentagons, hexagons, and octagons in geometry. This game is flexible and students should be able to use whatever method you prefer them to use to solve when playing this game.
It's a 2-4 person game where students try to be the first person to decorate their gingerbread house with ten decorations. Each time a student answers a game card question, they get to take a decoration from the middle to put on their gingerbread house. There are also chance cards in the deck that may help a student or put them back a few paces during the game! My students LOVE this game at Christmas time each year and enjoy picking out which decorations they will put on their gingerbread house!
