Paraphrasing print, digital and spoken text can be quite challenging for elementary students. Since the Common Core ELA standards specifically state that students should be able to paraphrase, I developed this 45-minute lesson to help my 4th graders learn how to successfully paraphrase ideas and information. It can be used by itself, or incorporated with any research project you might already be doing with students.
Included in this product:
* a detailed 2-page lesson outline (page one is included in the preview)
* a three-dimensional graphic organizer that can be used separately or glued into an interactive notebook (now in 2 sizes - one for composition notebooks and one for spiral-bound notebooks)
* printable for additional paraphrasing practice
* 8 Teaching Slides to guide your students through the lesson
There are also scripted “think alouds” and answer keys included so you can concentrate on what you do best – teaching!
You will receive a .zip file containing everything – the Teaching Slides are a separate file since they are used directly with students. I recommend you either display the Teaching Slides via a white board or document camera. Please ensure you unzip/extract all items to use them.
