I used to struggle years ago with teaching my young elementary students how to paraphrase and put things into their own words so that they weren’t just copying information from books. A few years ago I took the time to break down the task and look at what I do automatically as a fluent and college educated writer. Then I put these steps or different strategies into kid-friendly terms my students would understand. Finally, the task of teaching my students how to do a research report without plagiarizing has become easier! I hope these steps and strategies help you and your students too!
