THIS LESSON REQUIRES TECHNOLOGY AND MY POWERPOINT 'UNDERGROUND RAILROAD' (Check it out at my store) :)
1 day of notes, the 2nd day for the activities
Parcel to Canaan is an activity that first teaches about the history and making of the Underground Railroad. (Check out my PowerPoint at my store 'Underground Railroad' to use the notes page of this lesson).
Once students established background knowledge, students will analyze a letter and journey of a slave named Walter Warren. Students will read the letter and passages and seek the codes that were placed in the letter and depict them to what they meant.
Next students will follow Walter on his journey, which will be using the interactive site by Scholastic titles "The Underground Railroad: Escape from Slavery."
Students will use this website to answer the questions that follow Walter's journey from life on the plantation, escaping, safety, and freedom.
This includes all learning modalities and students are very interested in Walter's journey.
