Looking for a great way to break the ice on Parent Info/ Meet the Teacher night? This little activity is great way to start your evening, and a way to get to know a little more about your new students' family!
I find activities like this also help set the tone for the Parent / Teacher relationship; you are letting families know that their thoughts & ideas are valid, and acknowledging that they know their child best.
The Parent 3-2-1 offers your class parents an opportunity to (succinctly) share with you, the class teacher, what they love about their child and what, from their perspective, they believe their child's strengths and areas of improvement are.
I keep these sheets on file in my room during the year and find them helpful for going through before parent meetings, to remind myself of the parent's perspective, and to reflect on what growth I have seen in their child over the year.
Parent - Teacher Tip: Give a disclaimer when you are explaining the '1 wish' on the sheet! I often say to parents something along the lines of "I'm no genie but it's great to know what you consider crucial for your child this year!" - It usually gets a couple of laughs and most parents understand what you're getting at.
