First I test my students on their letters and sounds, then I begin teaching. I wait until 1st quarter conferences to re-evaluate my students and record which letters and which sounds they still need to master (that I have taught). I simply write down the student data on one of the small parent letters (4 to a page) and then I have each student sign their own name at the bottom. I staple that quarter sheet of data to full page flyer that has 20 different suggestions on how to help your child learn letters and their sounds at home.
The letter that is addressed to the parents reads as follows:
Recently my teacher tested me on my letters and sounds. I was hoping that you could help me at home with the following:
I need to be able to recognize the following letters:
I need to know the sounds of the following letters:
Thank you for helping me learn and grow! Love, _________"
