PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Does your child need to practice expanding their stories? This is the perfect packet for that.

I have made 26 pages and each practices great story skills by encouraging children to write about the character, setting and actions. They will also practice the correct formation of letters before your child will write their story.

When I use these in my classroom, I talk about many things with each page. If you look at the Alligator page, we would first name the alligator. I usually name it another letter that begins with that animal- like Allie the Alligator for example.

Next we begin to talk about Alligators. We add in science by discussing where the animals live, what they might eat and what they might do. We also talk about adjectives that goes with the animal as we are writing (or where it lives, or adjectives about what it is doing).

Once we have researched the animal (maybe even watching a couple of videos on youtube), we then start to discuss the setting. Where would we find an alligator? Most of the time kids will say a swamp. So we do a quick draw (2 mins or less) of a swamp in the setting circle. We might write a couple of descriptive words under the circle to add into our writing later.

Next, we think of an action. The last time we did this in class, my kids decided that a man was walking through the swamp and he got bit by Allie the Alligator. So we did a quick draw of a mans leg and Allie biting it. Again, we added a few descriptive words below the circle.

Next, students will practice writing the letters correctly on the lines.

Last, they will construct their story about Allie the Alligator (or whatever letter you are working on) using the setting, character and actions.

This unit fits CCSS 1.L.1; 1.SL.4; 1.SL.6
