We all know that reading aloud is the single most critical thing parents or caregivers do to prepare a child for a literate life. Reading aloud teaches a value and love of reading, as well as understandings about how print and stories work.
But, we cannot assume that all parents know HOW to read to their children. This brochure can be helpful. Currently used in pediatric offices, this brochure can teach parents some read aloud skills.
What a wonderful resource to make available to the parents in your classroom or school! Have this sent home with a newsletter, or available for parent-teacher conferences, or for "Back -to- School" nights.
If you have the opportunity to teach adults to read, be sure to have them read to children in their life. Then, both adult and child benefit!
