I love to celebrate holidays in my classroom, but when it comes to winter holidays, I need to make sure that I am recognizing and acknowledging all of the different celebrations that my students and their families participate in. It is also important to me that I take parent's concerns and wishes into consideration when planning activities and lessons for this time of the year.
This is the letter that I send home every year. It includes a short survey, asking parents which holidays they celebrate, if they are comfortable with their child participating in holiday related activities in the classroom, if there are any holiday related concepts that they prefer their child not be introduced to, and if they have any special holiday traditions that they would like to share with the class.
I've found that my classroom parents really appreciate that I take the time to ask their opinions, which helps me to build stronger relationships with my students' families. You can use this letter in the same way. Print the letter, sign your name, add the date that you need responses back, and make your copies. It also includes a color and black and white version so that you can choose the one that works best for you!.
