"What can I do at home to help my child learn to read?"
As a Reading Specialist, I hear this question frequently from parents. I created this guide to give parents information, activities, and suggestions for helping their children at home. This guide is perfect for parents because it explains early reading concepts in clear, easy-to-understand language. You don't have to be an education professional to understand this parent guide!
There are multiple ways to use this guide. Give this guide to pre-k parents at the beginning of the school year to help them guide their children in reading at home. Depending on your preference, give parents a few pages at a time or all of the pages at once.
Suggestions for use:
* Give this entire guide to parents to allow them to reference it all year or all summer.
* Give out a page at a time with your weekly classroom newsletter.
* Give out parts of this guide at parent-teacher conferences.
* Use this guide to conduct parent orientations, trainings, and/or meetings.
The Dolch Pre-Primer sight words are included in this packet. If you do not use these words in your classroom, just remove them from the packet. The pages are not numbered, so feel free to remove any pages that don't fit with your pre-k curriculum.
