Students who may be struggling with having a family member in prison may also be at risk for depression, learning problems, anxiety, school phobias, and behavioral problems. This workbook addresses the issue in a respectful and open way, helping kids cope with their emotional issues.

This would be a great set for special education teachers, social workers, guidance counselors, or school psychologists. It can be used with students at a variety of age and grade levels.

Why Teach About Parents in Prison
Over five million kids currently are impacted by having a parent in prison or jail. This leaves kids and young adults with a variety of emotions, from feeling confused and anxious to angry and sad. Kids with parents in prison are three times for likely to suffer from depression and two times more likely to suffer from learning problems. Recent research has shown that there are effective ways to help support kids dealing with having a family member in prison. It is time to address this concern with our youth before they become part of the cycle of crisis.
