After or during your parody unit, use this worksheet to assess student understanding of parodies. Students self-choose a fairy tale or fable and weave elements of parody into the storyline. Then, they illustrate one of their newly-created scenes.
This 2-page worksheet allows for self-choice, has a high-interest level, and shows that students can actually apply what they've learned into another scenario. It's also a great way to show multiple means of assessment (summarizing, creating new elements, writing, and drawing). You can also give the students a chance to present their story lines afterwards (a good time to review effective presentation skills, communication, and listening).
