Introduce academic vocabulary to your middle school students using these NO PREP worksheets. Each page features a word from the Academic Word List (AWL). Use these worksheets as bell ringers, as a unit on their own, or in conjunction with another unit.

What is the Academic Word List?
The AWL is a list of the most frequently used words in college textbooks across disciplines. The list was developed by Averil Coxhead.

These worksheets ask students to do much more than identify the definition. Each page asks students to identify the part of speech for each word family member presented, fill in the blank with the correct word family member, write the definition, draw a picture representing the word, list 2 synonyms and 2 antonyms, and write a sentence with the word connecting it back to their own lives.
