Partial Quotients- a Division Strategy Seat Scoot Activity
Partial quotients is a division strategy where students "chunk" the dividend, resulting in an a problem that's easier to solve!
This is a seat scoot game, where students will scoot from one desk to another solving a variety of problems using the partial quotient strategy!
-Teacher prep and directions
-Partial quotient poster
-26 scoot cards, each with a division problem that encourages the partial quotient strategy
- record sheet template
- answer key
- alternate ideas for the scoot cards
Alternate uses for cards:
--Instead of a seat scoot, use the cards as a work station.
-- Don’t have time to play the full game? No worries! Divide the deck of cards into three different sets: A-I, J-R, and S-Z.
--Send a seat scoot card home for home practice!
-- Use the cards during your math warm-up routine, discussing ways to use the strategy to solve multiplication problems mentally.
-- Place the cards and record sheets in a folder for early finishers!
