Are you struggling with challenging behaviors in the classroom? Are you finding that more of your energy goes into discussions about behavior than over class content? Use this participation plan to teach and record appropriate behavior in the classroom!
This packet offers a weekly handout which is comprised of “participation cards” for each day of the week, whether the class meets four days a week or five days a week. This includes half-sheet handouts and mini-posters to introduce and review expected behaviors. The five participation mini-posters are offered in a variety of formats for your convenience: Microsoft Word, Microsoft Publisher and JPG files.
Students asses their own participation, then Teacher weighs in with final point tally. This is a daily visual students keep on their desks throughout the class period for more accurate assessments. Each day, five participation behaviors are expected for optimal learning; grades for each behavior runs from 0-4 points for a 5-day class and from 0-5 points for a 4-day class. At the end of the week, the totals will be on a 100% scale.
I have found this system to be very useful in a classroom where students have to learn appropriate behaviors in the classroom. I have used this in my classrooms for over ten years with pleasant results. Expect participation and appropriate behaviors to increase tenfold with this system!
