Engage your students as they review participles and participial phrases (a type of verbal) with this fun game. There are four rounds. In rounds one and two, students identify the participles and participial phrases. In round two, they must also identify the modified noun or pronoun. In round three, students rewrite the sentences in order to fix the dangling or misplaced participles. In round four, students rewrite the sentences and combine them using participles. To play this exciting game in your classroom, all you need is the ability to project a Power Point presentation, a ball (soft texture), some dark tape, and a trash can.
Research shows that students often learn best when they can move, and this activity motivates students further by tapping into their love of sports. Using heterogeneous groups to play a game with friendly competition is an excellent way to meet the needs of all of your students and reward them for their success.
