This resource can be used as an introduction to lab work. It contains detailed step-by-step instructions to guide students through the process of making good observations, and the format of a lab write-up.
The purpose of this investigation is for students to make observations that will provide evidence to support the 4 key ideas of the Particle Model of Matter: all matter is made up of tiny particles, particles are in constant motion, particles have spaces between them, and when heat is added to a substance the speed of the particles increases.
Despite the fact that this is quite a simple lab investigation, it provides significant evidence to support the Particle Model of Matter, a fundamental model of Chemistry. ☺
Teacher Guide/Answer Key is included.
