2 Lesson Plans are directly aligned with Common Core Standards for 2nd Grade Geometry. Students will partition a rectangle into rows and columns of same-size squares and count to find the total number or area of the rectangle.
Students will explore these concepts in the following ways:
-using grid paper, Geoboards and rubber bands, and index cards to practice partitioning
-creating their own partitioned rectangles to play a card game
-rotating partitioned rectangles in groups to count areas
-completing Counting Area of a Rectangle Worksheet
-completing Partitioning Rectangles Worksheet
These lessons can be used independently but are included in the 2nd Grade Geometry Unit/Shape Unit that includes ALL Common Core Geometry Standards.
