Here's a quick and easy way to generate random cooperative partners or groups in your classroom. This item has four sets of nine cards each, for use in a classroom with up to 36 students. For random groups, shuffle the cards, hand them out, and then call students by shape, color, or number. Four cards are included with suggestions for use. Post the large header cards to show students where to meet their group.
Thinking ahead to avoid behavior issues, encourage participation, or foster social skills:
If you have specific students you want to work together, or to prevent certain students from being in the same group, decide ahead of time if you will call by numbers, colors, or shapes and be careful as you hand out the cards. Or, if you have particular partners or groups in mind, stack the deck before class by putting the cards in the order in which you will hand them out.
