Partner Math - Secondary Style
Partner Math is a great format for secondary students. Students work individually to complete a set of problems and then they check with their partner. If they don't have matching answers, they have to work together to figure out the error.
There are TWO scaffolded levels of solving exponential equations without logarithms.
* Level 1 required just manipulating the exponents. All quantities have the same base.
* Level 2 requires converting between related bases. For example, the student needs to know that 4 is the same as 2 to the second power.
After the students solve the problems on their paper, they match answers with a partner. Students collaborate on any unmatched answers to find their errors. It is a great way for students to discuss math.
Alternately, a student can solve 4 of 5 problems a night. When they finish, they can compare their answers between versions.
