Partner Math - Secondary Style
Partner Math is a great format for secondary students. Students work individually to complete a set of problems and then they check with their partner. If they don't have matching answers, they have to work together to figure out the error.
In this version, a =1 and the quadratic is already equal to zero so students can just focus on factoring and solving.
The problems on each version are different, yet the sum of the factors match between each version. For example, if the zeros of one quadratic are 4 and 5, their sum is 9. This could be matched with another quadratic where the factors add up to 9, for example one where the zeros are 10 and -1.
In this version, students factor and solve a quadratic and then calculate the sum of the solutions. They compare sums. Any unmatched sums should be reviewed.
Alternately, a student can solve 4 of 5 problems a night. When they finish, they can compare their answers between versions.
The questions are different between student A and student B, however, each sum is used once by each partner. If a partner gets the same answer more than once, they need to recheck their work.
When partners are done, they compare answers. If they have any unmatched answers, they need to work together to find the error.
