Looking for additional practice designed to go with the Engage New York Module 1 for 3rd grade?

This week's Question box addresses applying the distributive property to decompose units. These assignments are a great way to prepare you kiddos for the End of the Module assessment!

Each of the five included morning work assignment contains:

* Questions in the first box that provide additional practice with decomposing division word problems.

* Fluency box that helps students improve their fluency for 2's, 3's, 4's, 5’s (includes skip-counting)

* Application box that focuses on solving a 2 step word problem by drawing labeled tape models/diagrams.

* Modeling section that instructs students to draw advanced number bond.

***Every day the problems look and sound the same. Only the numbers change, allowing students to practice the skill without reinterpreting the words. I have found this to be extremely useful in past years, especially for my ELL and struggling students. I usually have students show their work under the document camera. We discuss any areas of misconceptions and ask probing questions. Students can also correct with a partner. This could be used at a station, too. There are tons of ways to incorporate this quick practice. If you enjoy this week's assignments keep your eyes out for my future posts!
