Partner pair ups have been around for awhile. We have all seen the standards: time clock, number matching and words. As a Social Studies teacher I decided to put my own twist on it. This works the exact same way as a time clock pair up. The students run around the classroom like mad the first week of school and fill in their seven continents sheet. Then whenever I decided to do pairs I say, “Alright ladies and gentlemen grab your passports make sure you have checked your luggage and remember no liquids!! We are departing out of gate 7B and heading to…. Africa!!” I keep the cards in a jar and as I am ‘preparing for the flight’ I walk around the room and let one student pull the card. Once the card is used I toss it. Once we have visited all seven continents I reprint the sheet and the students get another opportunity to fill their sheet out again accept they cannot choose the same seven partners.
