Encourage students to persevere when solving multistep problems using this partner activity!
Within this partner and self-checking format, each student will solve their own area problems. However, cooperating with their partner is necessary and should help motivate students to complete each problem and to maintain their focus as they do so.
The activity consists of sixteen area problems involving irregular (composite) figures. There are eight for each partner. The diagrams are composed of squares, rectangles, parallelograms, trapezoids, triangles, and circles.
You can use this activity for practice, as a review, as a math center, or as an assignment choice for differentiating equation lessons. A formula sheet and an answer key is included.
