Partner Reading is a peer-assisted intervention in which children take turns reading and providing support to each other. Partner reading has been utilized as a part of a number of literacy programs
including Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition, Successful for All, Fluency-Oriented Reading Instruction, Peer-Assisted Learning Strategies, and Classwide Peer Tutoring. A number of studies have found positive outcomes associated with partner reading for struggling readers. Positive outcomes associated with partner reading include improved reading accuracy, improved fluency, increased reading level, increased vocabulary, and increased comprehension. Partner reading has other benefits such as greater attention, involvement, collaboration, and on-task behavior. The time spent in partner reading is generally
between 30-40 minutes per session.
