I use this partner reading pack to help my students work on their reading fluency and comprehension skills.
Before allowing my students to work together, I remind them of the reading strategies that they can use while they are reading. Give your students the “What Strategies Did You Use?” sheet so that students can self monitor. They can also write down the words they had trouble with or use the other sheet included to illustrate the story and demonstrate their comprehension. Make sure to go over each strategy so they know how to utilize them!
I give my students the passages at my small group table the first time they read it, so that I can listen to each partner read their story, and make sure they are using the reading strategies correctly. We also point out the punctuation and talk about how to take turns with their partners.
Remind partners that they should take turns reading both parts of the play so they can have a lot of practice and learn what the story was about.
I allow my students to read together, but have them complete the comprehension activities for each story on their own.
