Teach your students how to be effective reading partners! Use each anchor chart as a mini lesson. Model how partners read and discuss text. Then provide students with the corresponding bookmark so they can practice these skills with a partner. There are 4 posters and bookmark sets:
* Partner Strategy Suggestions: Provide a list of cues and questions to coach a partner rather than just telling him/her the word (use with fiction or nonfiction)
* Partner Compliments: Help students focus on building each other up and emphasizing areas of strength (use with fiction or nonfiction)
* Fiction Discussion Questions
* Nonfiction Discussion Questions
Each poster has a catchy rhyme that can be chanted together to help the students remember how to read with a partner. Hang these in the classroom or display on the Smart board for easy reference. The bookmarks can be printed on card stock and laminated or glued into interactive notebooks as a resource.
With these resources and a little practice, your students will see themselves not only as readers, but as peer coaches. This is a great way to build confidence and classroom community.
This activity is aligned to CCSS.ELA-Literacy.SL.2.1.
