This product includes 3 sets of word cards, each with 24 words:nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs and pronouns (and a blank card for each set if you want to change some words)
I use these activities in two ways:
As a large group activity. I review the parts of speech using the posters and have students brainstorm words that belong in each category creating anchor charts. Then I place one set of word cards around the room and have students walk around in pairs with a clipboard and answering sheet. I then project the answer sheet on to my whiteboard and have students record their answers on the whiteboard and we check their work.
I use the other two word card sets as a center activity during guide reading rotations. Students work together but each student records the answer on their own sheet. I may re-use the first set for my low group to ensure success.
I print the word cards on cardstock with color ink. Laminating the cards will of course improve their durability.
After students complete the sorting activity I give them one (or more) of the follow-up worksheets. The worksheets can also be used for early finishers or additional practice.
