Students love to decode things, so why not decode while reviewing the Parts of Speech?
After discussing the Parts of Speech Review pages included, please place the two “Code It” activities that contain the same part of speech at each station. Create no more than eight teams of four students or less.
Distribute only one station transition card (provided on pages 21-22) to each team, and you may make it a competition or just an activity of completion without a strict time limit. If you choose to have the teams compete, the team who correctly decodes the most questions or fill-in-the- blanks (hence, finding the correct underlined part of speech) within thirty-two minutes, will win the competition. Suggestion: four minutes per station if this is a timed activity. Use a timer to ensure students move to the next station.
At each station, students are to find the correct underlined part of speech and use the letters underneath their choice to answer the question or fill-in-the-blank provided. Modification for students who struggle with this lesson: place a copy of the “Parts
of Speech Review” (pages 3-4) at each station and allow more time.
Have fun reviewing and decoding!
