Time for a truth bomb. Unless you're a grammar nerd like me, teaching (not to mention learning) the 8 parts of speech can be... well... pretty boring. This is a major problem. Major. Students NEED to know the 8 parts of speech like the back of their hands in order to be successful with any type of writing, communicating, comprehending, etc. BASICALLY EVERYTHING IN THE WORLD OF ELA! :)
How do we fix this problem? Well, fortunately there are lots of ways! Here's a few:
The good news? My Parts of Speech Flipbooks include everything you see above! There are fun songs, word sorts to help assess student understanding, other helpful charts and tips to assist students identify each part of speech in a sentence.
As part of your weekly activities on parts of speech, have students make these flipbooks. They can store them in their interactive notebooks if you do those! Then, after you've taught all 8 part of speech, your students will have a colorful, musical, concise way to review whenever they need the information again.
And because I know teachers can't afford to be printing in color ink, these flipbooks were designed with black text only. Look how beautiful they turn out when you use some pretty paper. *insert all the heart eyes*
Quick tip: Write a Donor's Choose for colored paper if needed! It's amazing what a difference just something simple like colored paper can do for student motivation!
