Teaching nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs can be fun when you include a poetry activity. Students engage synthesizing skills as they create an original poem, and they practice using the parts of speech.
My students make me chuckle when they read their poems during Author's Chair. I especially loved reading their Verb Acrostic Poems. Words like "vomit" and "splatter" can inspire some unique poems! I hope your students make you laugh (or cry) with the poems they create with through this packet.
Poetry activities in this packet include:
1) Verb Acrostic Poem
2) Adjective Poem
3) I Poem
4) Adverb Poem
The I poems can be fashioned as a puzzle for a bulletin board.
Adverb poems include writing prepositional phrases.
Each poetry activity includes:
1) Task cards for ideas/drafting, editing/revising, and publishing,\ 2) Poem Graphic Organizers
3) Sample poems written on the organizers (modeling)
4) Finished poems to share as examples
