What educators are saying

My kids loved this scavenger hunt. After a bit of teaching them to actually use it, they had a good time finding their way to the end. They didn't want me giving them any answers or help.

Description

Are your students ready to test their knowledge of all eight parts of speech? Check out this scavenger hunt activity that will have your students reviewing foundational content in a challenging and kinesthetic way. One question will lead them to another, and with a little bit of hard work, they'll make to the end! All eight parts of speech are included: nouns, verbs, pronouns, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, conjunctions, and interjections. There are specific questions pertaining to the various types of pronouns, verbs, and conjunctions, therefore I strongly recommend this activity for 6th grade and up!

You'll receive:

  • Print PDF Version - Print out the questions, hang them around the room, and provide students with recording sheets. It's that simple and works wonders in a traditional face-to-face classroom.
  • Digital Google Slides Version - Assign on your learning platform of choice. The first page contains all the "answers", similar to Jeopardy. Students click anywhere to start. They read the question, return to the main slide for the answer, and the answer leads them to the next question on the hunt. This is a great option if you are incorporating more technology in your classroom or you have students participating virtually.

What grade level is this best for?

I designed this resource to be used with my 6th grade Language Arts class. It lays a solid foundation for the daily grammar program we use. It can easily be used for 5th or 7th grade classrooms as well, but please use your professional discretion.

How long does this activity take?

My advanced students can get through this scavenger hunt in 30-45 minutes. My core classes need closer to 50 minutes (and the use of their notes). Don't be afraid to give out hints or lifelines when students are struggling!
