This resource includes:
Parts of speech cards for nouns, pronouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, prepositions, interjections and conjunctions.
Various word cards for each part of speech.
Two recording sheets. One sheet allows students to record words for two different parts of speech. The second sheet allows students to record words for four different parts of speech.
Print on cardstock the speech cards and word cards. Laminate for durability and cut out. Keep each part of speech card with corresponding words in a plastic Ziploc bag.
Choose which parts of speech cards and their coordinating word cards you wish your students to work on. Lay out the parts of speech cards and then mix up the word cards. Have the students sort the correct words under each part of speech card. Then they can record their words on the recording sheets.
You can play a version of memory.
For example, if two students are playing, they each have one or two parts of speech cards. Choose the same number of word cards for each part of speech. This way the players know how many they have to get for their parts of speech card(s) in order to win. Then turn the coordinating words over as you would if you were playing memory. The first student turns a card over. If the word belongs with one of their parts of speech they lay the card by their part of speech card. If the word doesn’t, they turn it back over and the next player takes their turn. The first player to get all the cards for their parts of speech wins.
