This fun activity is a great way to reinforce parts of speech with a SELF-CORRECTING twist! Students sort sentences with underlined parts of speech by Verb, Noun, Adjective and Preposition, then flip the cards to uncover letters. They rearrange these letters to solve the Word Puzzle! They (and you) can easily see that they are on the right track if they have spelled the correct mystery word. Use this as a center activity or have groups challenge each other to complete their puzzles before each other. Because there are 20 cards to sort, I recommend that even if doing as a center, students pair up or work as a group.
4 sets of 5 cards (20 sentence cards in All)
4 category cards (Verb, Noun, Adjective, Preposition) with clues to solve the 4 mystery words
1 answer sheet
How to prepare:
Copy double sided (preferably on card stock). Copy all cards on the SAME color of paper. Cut out the 6 smaller cards, but do NOT hand out the card on each sheet that has the mystery word. You can use these small cards or the page with 4 letter sets as the answer key, should you choose to use an answer key. The Category cards have a dotted line so that they can be folded and stand upright, hiding the clue unless the clue is needed.
These also fit perfectly in Iris photo cases, making them easy to store!
