Word-A-Gories is a game that really makes your kiddos think about the words they are using. The goal of the game is for them to think of unique and creative words. It's great for reviewing parts of speech, building vocabulary and focusing on word choice in students' writing.
Pick a Word-A-Gories play sheet and make one copy for each of your students. Choose a letter. You can print the attached letter cards and have a student pick one out of a bag. Or, you can pick a letter of your choice. The goal is for the students to think of a word that starts with the chosen letter to fit each category. Set a timer for 3 minutes, and let the class’ creative juices flow! When the timer goes off, pencils go down. Have the students share their answers. Students get a point for any original words. Students do not get a point for words that were duplicated by another student in that category. The student with the most points wins!
