This is designed as a succession of bellwork/mini-lessons culminating in a writing-based assessment; however, the activities can be used separately, particularly for review purposes.
Instead of directly teaching the parts of speech, the purpose of these mini-lessons is to jog the memories of students who have surely encountered this information in previous years and then get them to think critically about the use of specific words and their purpose, both in reading and writing. This includes a graphic organizer review with attached HOT discussion questions, writing prompts with suggested extensions, a parts-of-speech game, and a writing-based assessment that requires students to do some HOT and explain their own word choice.
Note: This only covers noun, verb, article, adjective, and adverb. I have separate materials for teaching conjunctions, prepositions, and pronouns.
