Students will discuss the parts of a story, watch a short film (approximately 6 minutes), and identify the parts in this story.
Video used is French Roast http://vimeo.com/8172551 an Oscar nominated short. There is minimal dialogue, so students may need to see the video multiple times since they are writing at the same time.
Put students in groups to complete the first page (identification of the parts of a story). Then go over answers and show the video while students complete the plot diagram and comprehension questions.
I use this in a high school ESL class (mixed grades 10-12), but I have also used this in junior high and it could easily be used at any level that discusses parts of a story as it does not ask for an indepth analysis.
