Product Description
This is a symbol-supported version - SymbolStix

This PowerPoint Animated Step-by-Step™ is designed to introduce diagramming in a fun and interactive way. The interactive whiteboard pen tools are used to diagram a familiar image, the human body, before progressing on to diagramming the body of the mealworm larva (sensors, head, thorax, abdomen, legs). The lesson also provides a series of interactive games that can be conducted in conjunction with the velcro-receptive Learning Fun Cube http://www.mayer-johnson.com/learning-fun-cubes-3-pack-black These activities allow students to practice the task of labeling the parts of the mealworm larva. Depending upon the sub-activity, the learning fun cube is loaded with 3 inch Dual=Representation symbols (included as pdf files) for numbers, colors, or labeled parts. Children take turns tossing the cube, then finding/labeling the part as indicated by the number, color or label achieved in the roll of the cube. Please note: if you don’t have learning fun cube, you can always pull a ‘surprise card’ out of a box or bag.

Please refer to the following Animated Step-by-Steps™ blog post, for detailed information on the most efficient way to construct the Dual=Representation Symbols for use with the Learning Fun Cube.

A 10-19-15 blog post called, More Differentiated Instruction – Parts of the Mealworm provides further information regarding implementation of this interactive activity.

Not readily apparent is the fact that labels and body parts are loaded with sound encouraging exploration when using the iPad. In the hands of a creative teacher this feature can be a real asset.

This resource pairs well with the following Animated Step-by-Steps™: Life Cycle of the Mealworm Science Project, I’m a Little Mealworm Song. Hope you enjoy using these science resources.
