This handout is centered around a story I found in Quant à Moi, called, Pas de Panique. I designed pre-reading and post-reading activities and annotated the text so that it is less of a grammar exercise and more practice using grammar in context.
The pre-reading activity has students skimming the story organizing key ACTIONS on a timeline (so that they can later determine if they should be passé composé or PQP based on the order they show up in the story)
While the students are reading, they have to conjugate the verbs, paying attention to helping verb (including vandertramps like descendre which can use être OR avoir) and unusual past participle agreement with avoir. The text is annotated with a vocabulary box at the top.
After they finish, students answer comprehension questions in English.
This activity is for intermediate-mid/high students. I use it with Advanced French 4.
